Bears Deserve a Change Too: Change to Faux Caps

It can take up to just one Canadian Black Bear to make just one bearskin cap for the Queen's Guards. Bears are shot, often several times before dying. Many bears escape wounded and die a slow death in the woods from blood loss, gangrene, infection, dehydration, or starvation. Bears are also mothers who leave behind orphaned cubs who cannot survive on their own - a death sentence for the cubs as well. Meat Tray Protest at Toronto Slaughterhouse

The human meat tray demonstration is a shocking image to remind people that whether it's a person, cow, pig, or chicken - flesh is flesh. Before they end up wrapped in cellophane, chickens and turkeys have their throats slit while still fully conscious and scalded alive, pigs have their teeth, tails, and testicles removed without painkillers, and cows are often skinned alive at the slaughterhouse. It's appalling to think of slaughtering and eating a human being, but animals have the same capacity to feel pain and suffering, joy and love just like us. They have personalities and emotions, and form families and friendships if given the chance. Pigs and chickens are more intelligent than dogs and cats, yet are abused in ways that would be illegal if cats and dogs were the victims.

We traveled to Spain, France, Austria, Italy, and Turkey with our painted skins demo "Animal Prints, Not Animal Skins" and "Animals Are Not Ours to Wear". Istanbul had never seen such a demonstration and we were mobbed by the media! The protest was in over 13 Turkish Newspapers, and newscasts including CNN Turkey!

Steve-O Protests to Save Lucy the Elephant

The Edmonton Zoo has held Lucy the Elephant captive for over 30 years. She is all alone, and is kept in a small barn during Edmonton's freezing winters. She's sad, sick, and needs friends. Zoocheck Canada, PETA, Bob Barker, and now Steve-O are calling on the Edmonton Zoo to send her to a sanctuary in the United States where she will have a chance to be free.

With the United States and European Union banning seal products, and world leaders like Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama condemning the slaughter - it's no doubt that it's a stain on our countries reputation.

Turn Over a New Leaf - Go Vegan!

In Lettuce Ladies bikinis and a tray of hot soy-cocoa, we traveled from Vancouver to Winnipeg giving away free samples to encourage people to go vegan as their New Year's Resolution. New Year's is the time that people make a pledge to make a change - and what better pledge to make than one that's the easiest to help stop cruelty to animals, get you healthy and in shape, as well as helping to save the planet! Going vegan does all of those things - and the only catch is that you get to do it by eating delicious vegan food! We braved temperatures of -20 degrees Celsius in some cities!

$eal $laughter Bleed$ Million$ in Taxe$

This year, a day before Tax Day, PETA members and local animal rights groups held demonstrations across Canada with seal bodies laying dead on a pile of fake money. The purpose of the demonstration was to bring awareness of the fact that cruelty aside, the seal slaughter should stop because it costs tax paying families 7 million dollars each year - according to a study at the University of Guelph. In 2009, the government spent 7 million dollars on the seal hunt, when it only brought in 1 million in revenue. On top of that our government is expected to shell out an estimated $10 million dollars to fight the EU ban on seal products. The seal slaughter cannot support itself financially, and is only alive because the government is reaching into the pockets of the same tax paying families that polls showed are against the seal slaughter (as a majority of Canadians are against the seal slaughter).

Just before Valentine's Day we wanted show people that compassion is not only sexy, but a vegan diet can also give you more energy and stamina in the bedroom. Why? Cholestrol-packed meat, dairy, and egg products clog the blood flow to all of your bodies vital organs - not just your heart - and can cause impotence. Trapped by Greed - Piege par la cupidite

The Fur Council of Canada (an organization that promotes the fur industry) had an event at a Museum in Gatineau - so we were there to expose the truth about fur - how cruel and painful it is. In Canada, roughly 2 million animals are killed for their fur; half of that is from animals confined to factory fur farms, and the other half are animals trapped (painfully) in the wild.

Canadian bears are brutally slaughtered every year to make new caps, yet PETA has offered numerous styles of faux bearskin hats for the Ministry of Defense to start using - including one designed by Stella McCartney. Even Members of the British Parliament have passed a bill supporting the end to the real bearskin caps.
